Gallery d’Arte, 547 West 27th Street, Suite 518, NY City is proud to present two person Exhibition 2015 with an Opening Reception on Black Power: Kie-Soo Park and Bong Jung Kim, Curated by Suechung Koh. This exhibition will run from October 21 – Nov. 10, Thursday October 22nd from 6-8pm.

In art, Black is the darkest color, the result of the absence of or complete absorption of light. The color black relates to the hidden, the secretive and the unknown, and as a result it creates an air of mystery and evil spirit. It keeps things bottled up inside, hidden from the world. In color psychology, black means power and control. Also it can give an impression of elegance, sophistication and confidence. The color black can represent both the positive and the negative. This Exhibition has 2 artists who are using color black for their paintings but they are expressing opposite meanings.

Kie-Soo Park abundantly portrays the true message of the nature. Park’s landscape of mountains that are consisted of pure black, defines the styles of his paintings. His highly developed senses of space and form have given rise to an impressive body of work which has changed perceptions about Nature not only within the world of contemporary art but within contemporary culture in the most general sense. Park’s work delves beneath the symbols that mark our daily lives in the Nature to get to deeper meanings that question origin, authorship and the very nature of painting itself.

Bong Jung Kim’s series ‘Cyber Addiction’, depicts the seriousness of our involuntary addictions that accompanies the growth of technology of modern civilization. By interfusing and arranging the antithetical mediums – Black and Gray colored poppy flowers, electronic devices, electric wires, etc. – Kim creates another newly formed 21th century addiction called ‘Poppy Internet’. Kim, who received BFA from Seoul National University, came to US and steadily worked as an artist since 1990s. His various yet distinct works of art were revealed through his Solo and group exhibitions internationally.
