EDUCATION

BFA from Seoul National University,

Internet development - which is now one of our newly emerged cultures - allows quick exchange of information and provides a convenient access to glean useful data. Although the world has become a “terminal”, manifold critical consequences follow it.

Kim’s new series exhibition, ‘Addiction’, depicts the seriousness of our involuntary addictions that accompanies the growth of technology of modern civilization. Along with such wontedness, technology has become the significant part of people’s daily life. Based on Kim’s indication, people tend to think that they actually ‘own’ them however, it is the electronic devices that possess the people. Kim straightforwardly depicts the dangerousness of people’s unconsciousness through his artworks.

By interfusing and arranging the antithetical mediums – brightly colored poppy flowers, electronic devices, electric wires, etc. – Kim creates another newly formed 21th century addiction called ‘Poppy Internet’. His idea of dichotomous relationships portrays the people involuntarily floundering, in developed technology without realizing it.
